We are open! Hanna was kind to Ocean Lakes as we did not experience damage. A few minor power issues throughout the night and some beach erosion, but that was it! Come see us! Online camping reservations were available as of 8:40 AM.

Officials to close eoc
Conway, South Carolina The Horry County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will close at 9:30 a.m. today and will revert back to normal operating conditions. In addition, the Horry County Road & Drainage Hotline (843-381-8000) will remain open until 11 a.m. this morning after which it will go back to regular office hours.
Horry County faired well overnight as Tropical Storm Hanna swept by the coast. The County experienced minor power outages, flooding in a variety of low lying areas, and sporadic downed trees have been reported. Horry County opened two voluntary shelters for the storm and 149 individuals sought shelter during the storm; both shelters are now closed.
Preliminary damage assessment teams have reported very minimal damage (minimal enough that no dollar figure will be assigned) and some beach erosion in the Shore Drive, Garden City Beach and South Strand campground areas.
Residents are reminded that Horry County does not provide curbside pickup and homeowners are responsible for any needed debris removal. Residents of unincorporated Horry County can take vegetative or other types of debris to any one of the 24 Horry County Solid Waste Authority Recycling Convenience Centers which will open at 10 a.m. this morning. Residents living within the city limits of Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach, Surfside Beach, Loris, Aynor, Briarcliffe Acres, or Conway should contact them for debris removal procedures.

Officials to survey Damage
Conway, South Carolina Horry County faired well overnight as Tropical Storm Hanna swept by the coast. Horry County opened two voluntary evacuation shelters for the storm and 149 individuals utilized the shelters. As of 7 a.m. this morning, only 137 individuals remained in the shelters and are beginning to vacate.
The County experienced minor power outages, flooding in a variety of low lying areas, and received reports of sporadic downed trees. Preliminary windshield assessments reveal only minimal damage to structures/infrastructure however significant beach erosion has been reported in the Shore Drive, Garden City Beach and South Strand campground areas.

In the event of a hurricane, Ocean Lakes Family Campground wants our guests and Annual Lease Site Holders to be prepared for the storm. This information is available only on a need to know basis to assist our guests in preparation for a storm. Web pages are loaded as soon as power and internet cable lines are restored for uploading new info to our web server.

When preparing for a hurricane, the American Red Cross recommends to have the following safety tips and supplies in the event of a hurricane.
Before You Leave:
- Unplug all appliances, turn off the electricity and the main water valve to reduce damage
- If you have time and live in an area prone to flooding, move furniture to a higher floor
- Tell someone outside the flood area where you are going
When You Evacuate:
- Leave as soon as you can, in daylight, if possible
- Listen to the radio; avoid flooded roads and watch for washed-out bridges
- Be prepared for delays; roads and bridges will probably be crowded and traffic will move slowly
What To Bring:
- First aid kit, prescription medications, toiletries
- Baby food, diapers, foods for persons on restricted diets, if appropriate
- Playing cards, games, books
- Battery-powered radio, one flashlight per person, extra batteries
- Blankets, sleeping bags, and warm protective clothing
- Identification, copies of insurance papers, passports, other essential documents
Food & Water:
- Canned foods: Store canned vegetables and meats to create no-cook main dish meals if the power is out. Pack canned fruits, raisins, dried fruits and nuts for snacks.
- A manual can opener
- At least 3 gallons of water per person
- Instant coffee and tea
- Powdered fruit drink mixes or canned juices
- Other good staples: peanut butter and jelly, crackers, cookies, chips & cereal
- Baby food and ready made formula
- Plastic eating utensils, paper plates, and paper towels
- A supply of food and water for pets
Other supplies
- Extra batteries
- Battery-operated radio
- Flashlights, with extra bulbs
- Battery-operated lanterns. Take care with candles or Coleman lanterns, which could be fire hazards and should be used only after the storm.
- Charcoal or gas grill, with a supply of fuel.

- Toilet Paper
- Protective Clothing, rainwear, and bedding or sleeping bags
- Mosquito repellent
- Special items for infants, elderly or disabled family members

- Keep items in a waterproof container

Ocean Lakes monitors storms closely and has a detailed "Emergency Preparedness Plan" that is updated annually.
Refunds during a Mandatory Evacuation:
- Camping guests will receive a refund or may apply the balance to another reservation in the case of a Mandatory Evacuation.
- If you are in park when a Mandatory Evacuation is issued by the Governor of South Carolina, Ocean Lakes Security will notify guests (in case they have not already heard via the media).
In the case of a Voluntary Evacuation:
- Regarding new arrivals: If you have a reservation and choose to come during a voluntary evacuation Ocean Lakes will be happy to check you in!
- Guests must check out in the Main Office if they choose to leave on a voluntary basis (prior to their scheduled departure date).
- Please turn you car pass in as you depart.
- Camping guests will receive a refund or may apply the balance to another reservation if they choose to depart prior to their scheduled departure date.
- If you choose to depart (prior to you scheduled departure date) due to a storm after the Main Office has closed for the night, make sure you turn your car pass in to the Main Gate and let them know it is an early departure. (The car pass will help us know the date to use for your refund.)
- NOTE: During a hurricane or tropical storm is the only time we accept a car pass for a refund - otherwise you would need to come to the office in person.
You have a reservation to camp, but there is a named storm in the Atlantic:
- If you have a reservation and choose not come, you must call our Reservation line at 877-510-1413 to cancel your reservation (prior to your arrival date) and see if there is a special exception regarding your deposit. (Normally, we keep the $50 deposit if you cancel less then 14 days prior to your arrival date.)
